Business Highlights
  • More than tripled the school district fund balance in just over five years (5% - 16.8%)
  • Managed bonds, sinking funds, and countless capital project finance programs for a large school system.
  • Implemented "Zero-Based Budgeting" and followed current best-practices in helping the board develop a budget that put students first.
  • Successfully negotiated multiple collective bargaining agreements with three separate employee groups.
  • Ensured appropriate and adequate internal controls and proper budget transparency initiatives.
  • Properly managed millions of COVID-19 relief funds including the latest ESSER funding.

As a superintendent, a large part of my success has been the critical work of leading the district in innovative and disciplined ways. I have been able to add significantly to our fund equity, negotiated multiple collective bargaining agreements, created operational and staffing efficiencies, and put in place structures that will ensure the highest level of resource stewardship.

Many districts employ a business strategy focused on cuts and slashing budgets, which I have sadly had to do at times. However, effective business leadership does not just involve making budgetary cuts. Instead, a strong business strategy revolves around prioritizing what is essential to the district vision, supporting new innovations that drive the distrct forward, and creating efficiencies to save money in places that do not inadvertently harm our students. With this in mind, I have been able to expand our services, create new and innovative programs and departments, as well as "right size" our operation to come under budget each year.

In the Novi Community School District, being able to collaboratively work with the board and district stakeholders to make strategic investments would be a priority for me. Additionally, advocating for equitable funding for Novi in Lansing will also be critical as they are not funded at the same level as some of their "peer" districts.  I believe that my background in innovative business practices can help continue the trajectory NCSD has as a leader among educational institutions across the state and nation.
